After taking degrees in Science (1983) and Engineering (1985) at the University of Sydney, I went on to study Spanish with a view to working overseas. I obtained a Certificate of Fluency from Spain’s Ministry of Education and Science in 1992, then a Diploma in Translation (English to
Spanish) in 1993. By this stage my focus had centered on becoming a full time translator, and on my return to Australia I obtained the NAATI Translator Accreditation (English<>Spanish, 1995), followed by the NAATI Interpreter Accreditation (English<>Spanish, 1997). Formal studies were rounded out with a master of Arts in Translation and Linguistics at the University of Western Sydney (2000) followed by a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in 2004.
